The 65th Venice Film Festival will focus on Italian cinema, Japanese animation and independent features, The Associated Press reported.
Organizers revealed the 21 films to be screened for competition at the festival, running from Aug. 27 through Sept. 6, on Tuesday. Only five English-language movies listed as Hollywood productions will compete for the top prize.
The smaller number of American movies featured is partly because of the writersâ strike, which prevented many American productions from being ready in time for the competition, the festivalâs director, Marco Mueller, said.
